I spent about 10 days or so in Thailand. Though I never really left Bangkok. It really had its ups and downs. The sex scene is pretty crazy and rather amusing... Checking out Pat Pong and Nana Plaza should be a must for most heterosexual males who aren't whipped. I really fell in love with the food in Thailand though it wasn't hot enough, I found Sri Lankan food more to my palate, the beer wasn't too shit hot either, but it was cheap and after the first litre or two who really cares anyway right?

Nana Plaza Bangkok

Well, tonight I went to Nana Plaza in Bangkok.

What is it?

It's kind of a red light district... not dissimilar to Pat Pong area. Now, that said it seems to me there are several differences.

One: They are less raunchy
Two: Hotter women

So basically the women are better looking, but the show is less hardcore. There is no ping-pong show, or and other strange things. Just cute naked girls, some dancing, some just sort of shaking their ass.

Anyways, the best part of the evening was buying a cheese burger with bacon from a street vendor.... that pretty much sums up the evening.

Dave leaves in 4 hours.... sucks to be him, waking up early for a flight. I know it's gonna suck and he'll feel like shit heading to Japan. Anyways Pat Pong, Nana Plaza.. Interesting but quebec kicks their butt anytime.

Little Hung Over - Beer Farts

So I finally dragged my ass out of bed around 11:00am, had a shower, went down to pay for a couple more nights and promptly headed to the Internet Cafe. I bought a couple bottles of water, because I'm dehydrated.

I really don't feel so much hung-over as I do very very dry. My mouth, my eyes, just dry. I think what saved me from the hang-over was the stop for the hot-ass curry rice and chicken last night around 2am with Dave. Then I was up for another hour at the internet cafe blogging drunkly about my night.

I have to say that considering I had about 10 or so beer last night my blog post was pretty well written.

So, there are a few SE Asian beers that are not too bad here. Chang which is 6.4% is good if it is cold. But considering the heat here it doesn't stay cold long enough to drink and thus tastes not unlike ass. Then Singah, it's pretty smooth. It's still acceptable to drink when it isn't ice cold, which makes it my preferred drink. It's generally cheap.

But in Pat Pong (The XXX Area from last night) all the beers are generally 100 Baht (small bottle) if there is a fee to watch the show (normally 100-300 Baht). If there is no cover charge then quite often beer will cost 150 Baht.

Out of interest, if you find yourself needing to exchange money at any time of the night and have hard currency (USD/EURO/GBP) you can walk about 500m from Pat Pong to the Bank of Thailand and they have an automated exchange machine that gives bank rates for currency exchange. If you try and change money at a bar or exchange place on Pat Pong you will get crap rates.

Dave tried to switch a 50Euro note and the bars would only give him 40-42Baht/Euro the Automated Exchange Machine gave something like 44Baht/Euro which is damn close to the real rate of 44.29 (Todays Rate from XE.COM).

Anyways, I'm starving... I came right to the Internet Cafe, cause I'm a nerd like that. No plans today. It's hot out, I'm dehydrated, I'll drink lots of water, eat food and probably spend more than my fair share of time plugging away on a computer.

One more thing which I neglected to blog last night. The clubs are sort of odd in Pat Pong. They have a long rectangular runway with poles for the girls. When there is no show going on there is always about 8-14 girls just sort of dancing.... I say sort of because it's not very good dancing, just shaking their asses a little bit. They all wear bikinis when they aren't putting on a show and they have little red circles with numbers on them. Think of it as a menu you can order from.

The Red Light/Hooker/Strip Club district of Bankok. Approx 2-3 km from Khao Sarn Rd. It's an interesting place, that closes down between 2-3am.

Anyways, it was pretty crazy night. If you are interested, to go from Khao San Rd to Pat Pong it costs about 100 Baht by Taxi. At the end of the night coming home it cost 200-300 by taxi or 100-120 by TukTuk. They jack their rates up and 120ish was about the best we could find.
