Another Canadian Blogger

Yesterday I was at the hostel and I saw a lady at the computer. Later, I saw that lady again at the same restaurant I was at. So back at the hostel I introduced myself and went out for some beers at a fine restaurant and bar called "Hell Hunt" in Tallin.

It turns out Lisa is a Canadian. Originally from Saskatchewan but has lived on Vancouver Island and Calgary. Now she is an English teacher in Moscow though!

It was cool meeting up with another Canadian. The best part about it though, she's a blogger too. So, check out her website: http://lisahuck.blogspot.com/

I spent most of the day wandering the city, both the old and new. I think I have seen most of the attractions, I will of course blog them more specifically later, but for now I'm just reading a new book (new to me) called "are you experienced?" by william sutcliffe given to me by Ralf. I laugh, and wonder if there is a hidden meaning.

I sort of received a package from Canada too. Sort-of because it's at Siri's place in Germany, but I won't be going back there. So she is mailing it to another friend of mine so eventually I'll be united with my mail. It's from my good Bro John in North Bay, and I know for a fact it includes some Tim Hortons Coffee!

One of my other friends made this funny logo.

When Did I Start Traveling and Why?

When Did I start Traveling?

I left Canada in Early October 2006.

Why Did you start Traveling?

I never really had the travel bug before and to be honest I really just planned this trip on a whim. Or to be entirely honest, I didn't really plan the trip. I did however buy a one-way plane ticket to Paris and hoped it would all fall together in the end.

I guess I should go back a little bit to before the trip to try and explain this one.

I grew up in Vancouver and after high school I was pretty much not doing much with my life so I threw an application in to the Canadian Military down at the recruiting office. I actually forgot I applied because they took about 3-4 months to get back to me and suddenly I found myself running around like an asshole in green pajamas in St Jean Quebec, or rather I mean to say I was learning how to be a solider in basic training.

Few more years of school stuff in the military and I found myself working 700 feet underground in North Bay Ontario at 22 Wing. Did I mention the 6 months in the North Pole (CFS Alert)? Been there, Done that.

I was a little bit frustrated after getting back from the North Pole, largely in part due to the fact I got to work with "real" people and not the screwed up bureaucracy, power struggle and bastard french clique MWO's in North Bay. It was a real cluster fuck down there with no changes going to happen anytime soon. I had a pretty fucked up relationship and it was uncomfortable being there, small places everyone knows your past, history and probable future.

So after getting shit on for something I just had enough. You can only treat your subordinates so bad before they are going to tell you to go fuck yourself, I finally hit that point. My release papers were submitted and six months later I was happily playing civilian in Europe after a few months of getting dicked around by ass-clowns. But FIGMO and was on my way...

Was that bitter?

Ok, not everything in the military was bad. I got some interesting training, a bunch of certifications (nearly certified insane in the process perhaps) and met a whole lot of really great friends. It was a good experience, there was just a few brown nosing officers and old-timers who need to step to the side and die (I mean retire...) and I think things would have been much more positive.

Friday Party in Vechta

Siri and Ken

Last night Siri and I went to a Peters Birthday party. There were about 20 people or so huddled outside on the balcony of an apartment and it was pretty cool.

At first it was a little bit slow, then a few people who wanted to talk english started talking to me... "Hey you are that Canadian?" LOL. Yep, I'm THAT Canadian.

So there was beer, there was Henna....

Sarah, Siri and myself went to a bar just down the street prior to going to the party. That is where this posts picture came from. It was pretty nice, but a little bit swanky for my taste. LOL.

Europe is such a shock with prices and stuff, after being in cheap countries for so long it's pretty crazy to pay 2 Euro for a beer. Considering it would have bought be 2 Beers (650ml each) and dinner back in Bangkok.

After the party we had about 1.5 km to walk home, and shit it was cold. Ok it was probably 12-15C but I was wearing shorts and Tshirt, and I've been used to 30C as a night time temp for the past while... It was brutal.

As you may have noticed, we aren't in Bremen. We were pretty slow getting started this morning. Bremen is an hour train ride from here and it would sort of be a pain in the ass to go there now. So I am going to go buy a sweater or a pull-over here in Vechta so I don't freeze my ass off too badly.

I'll bring my camera along and take a picture of Grosse Straße... (The main street, "Tall Street.") There is this statue of a horse that I'm certainly going to hop up on to for a picture at some point... Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow... But it WILL happen. Hopefully not followed by pictures of Ken getting arrested. We'll See :)

So, Today I spent a couple hours at the travel agent. Well, On the Internet.

Next Stop? Still undecided. Bus, Train, Plane?

So I booked a Jungle Adventure for the next 3-4 Days? What do you think?

It's decent price, go live in a forest, eat some bugs maybe. Anyways, I might not be online so much until like the evening of the 3rd of day of the 4th. So don't look for any new updates.

Weird picture?

Yah, It's (if I am correct) from Kingston, Ontario.... There was a Men's Christmas Dinner. A really Shit one that only happened because the CO was guilted in to it. Anyways the camera was out and I tried to make some stupid faces. (For those non-military types, Men's Christmas Dinner is supposed to be a formal military Christmas meal served by the higher ranks to the lower ranks... as you can tell, it wasn't too formal. It was a bullshit meal thrown together to appease the masses, but was a pretty lame attempt.)

I stayed up until 8-9am again today. What's with that?

Anyways, I've got some Singha Beer, sitting at the internet cafe... I love drinking beer on the internet. Listening to w00t Radio - http://www.w00tradio.com/ <-- fucking sweet dude
