Göreme Village
Göreme village was beautiful and I can't recall if I plugged my Hostel... I stayed at the Ishtar Cave Pension for 10 tyl a night, which includes one of the nicest breakfasts I've ever has while budget traveling.
The bus cost 18 tyl from Göreme Village to Konya and took about 4 hours... Seems like a long time because it's only 240ish km I think. But I watched two hilarious turkish movies... I can't tell you what they said but the acting was superb and fully understood.
Getting from the Otogar (bus station) is easy, out on the main street (couple hundred metres from station) you will see mini-buses that drive very slow and cost 1.20 tyl to take you to the city centre.
I found a wonderful Otel (Generally Otels are cheaper than Hotels, sort of like hotel and motel) called Otel Petek for 20tyl (down from original 35) with breakfast and shower and bathroom in room, WITH hot water.
Note: Many buget places 'say' hot water, see the room and TEST it. Many places use solar heating tanks on the roof which are colder than a witches titty on halloween.
I recommend Otel Petek in Konya, the number is 0.332.351.25.99. Its right at the edge of the bazaar near the main PPT, five min from Alaaddins Hill.
Today I went to the mosque on Alaaddins Hill and dined out with three Korean friends at Sifas Restaurant right across from Sifas Hotel. Its renouned for great cheap food. I ate 1/2 roast chicken and a hot spicy kebap with tea for 11 tyl (7).
On the way back to the Otel I went to the bazaar to buy a warm sweater. I bought a very beautiful thick wool sweater for 35 tyl, I didnt really try to deal too much on the price, its a beauty heavy sweater and I think the price is fair, plus I was pretty cold!
Tomorrow evening I get to see the Mevlana museum and also a free show of the 'whiriling dervishes' one of Islams mystic orders inspired by the poet Mevlana Rumi.
So that is the plans for now...

It's good to hear that some things are still where they used to be. I am writing my own blog and have just reached the point where I arrive in Konya back in September 1990. My notes made at the time say I paid 20,000 TL for my room at Otel Petek. The currency must have been rationalised since then because that was about £3.
