More about a Bivy Bag
Lots of people don't seem to know what a bivybag is ... So I decided to take a few pictures the other day.
Basically, a Bivy Bag is a weather-proof (resistant) bag that you can sleep inside. Most new ones are made of Gortex and are really excellent at keeping your dry.
This picture is a picture of my Sierra Designs Nahche -18C "Mummy Style" sleeping bag, laying on top of my Green Canadian Military Gortex bivy bag.
The top of the bivy bag has a hood that covers over top of you in order to keep you dry and protect your from the elements. Many bivy bags now come with a tented style top with a netting to protect you from the bugs.
Bivy bags are often used by the extreme outdoors people without a tent or other larger type of shelter. They are really lightweight and are a great way to keep the backpack easy to carry! You can easily save 3-7 lbs if you don't carry a tent.
Bivy bags range from about 150-300 dollars canadian new, or about 75-100 used at army surplus type stores.
The first time I had the opportunity to use one of these was in the military, and I was really surprised how well it worked. It kept me dry and warm through some pretty cold and inclement weather conditions!

I USE THE THE ARMY SURPLUS BIVI BAG,NEVER GO OUT IN THE WOODS WITHOUT IT.
Hi Ken were can I get the army Bag from at the best price.I am in Toronto?
Honestly I couldn't tell you where to get one... Army surplus would be the best bet... I know to buy one they are worth 250-350 new... the military ones are on the books at over 300. So if its new, then that sort of price range is good... But couldn't really tell you where to get one, I've never lived in toronto, sorry.
