Iodine Tablets
This is a picture of one brand of iodine tablets called "Coghlan's." It's important to make sure when drinking water away from home that it is potable and won't give you some messed up germs.

Iodine tablets make the water taste kind of crappy, but it's better to drink nasty water than to be really sick. This little bottle contains 50 pills, which is enough to make about 25 litres of water potable.
Many camping stores sell iodine tabels with an additional tabel which gets rid of the iodine taste from the water after it's been purified, it's not too much more expensive and will make your water drinking experience much nicer.
There are many other products that are easier on the stomach, such as Pristine water purification drops or getting a filter/pump. The filter is nice because it removes floating nasties from the water, but at the same time it is a pain in the butt because you need extra filters if you are gone for a long period of time and also there is the weight consideration.
Regardless of where you are camping it is very important to remember to make sure your water is potable. The last thing you need is to spend your vacation with montezuma's revenge!
