Eating Strange Things: Veggie Dogs

In keeping with today's theme of eating new and wonderful things... I've tried the Veggie Hotdog!

Honestly I'm a little surprised at this one. When I first opened the packaging it looked rather unappetizing. I opened the edge of the package and tried to yank the end of the wiener and it started to rip a little... Normally you can do this with normal meat-based ones. I'm sure it's the a$$holes that hold it together hehe.

Anyways, I opened the package and they "felt" a little bit differently, it's hard to describe, but it wasn't a meaty feel... Anyways, I didn't feel like sparking up the BBQ this time, I will in the future, so I threw them in the nuker (microwave) and let them sizzle for a minute and a half.

They got the tell tale I'm going to explode bubbles all over them just like a normal wiener and seemed to have a pleasant, though much less oily smell than usual.

I slapped them in to buns and covered them in the customary amount of mustard and ketchup and I have to say they tasted pretty darn good. If these had been fed to me, without seeing the preparation or packaging, I probably would have a tough time saying if they were 'real'.

Next, one of the main down sides to veggie / tofu based products is the texture... Quite often the texture is really gross and is like a thick paste when you eat it... These I didn't notice, again, fooled me.

On the health side of things, they are pretty darn good for you, better than eating the normal tits and ass out of animals that didn't make it to dog food production lines.

So over all I say these are some pretty darn good veggie hot dogs, and I'll try them again, but BBQ next time. I've got another little rant about the lack of good tofu products in small towns, or ones that aren't extremely ethically diverse... Because out in Vancouver the Asian markets have some AMAZING tofu products I just love!

LOL, I just noticed the plate is sitting on top of a "PETA" propaganda magazine. Interesting.
